Here's a list of some tutoring-related links. Hope they'll be of use to you! Here are a few links to local education-related sites. (This is not meant to be an endorsement of these organizations, just a list of some sites I thought you might find interesting...) Virginia Department of Education Fairfax County Council of PTAs U.S. Department of Education - Publications for Parents FCPS list of "Web Sites of Interest to Students, Parents, and Staff" Commonwealth of Knowledge, Standards of Learning (SOLs) Independent School Guide - A directory of private schools in the D.C. area (for sale). Teaching Strategies Inc. - An interesting site, focused on K-3, with lots of info for parents and educators. Not in the Washington D.C. area? Sorry, I can't help with tutoring, but you might try one of these nationwide services. Tutor 2000 - A nationwide tutor referral service. It's free to both parents and tutors, and allows them to make their arrangements independently. Tutors aren't screened, though -- you'll have to do that yourself. TutorFind - TutorFind has been around for years and is now online. They do basic screening of their tutors and handle scheduling and payment. (Although it's a good resource for parents who don't know any tutors in their area, it's usually better to work with a tutor directly if you know one.) Huntington Learning Center - These centers exist all around the country. I don't think they're on the web yet but you can call them at 1-800-692-8400. Interested in becoming a tutor yourself? Check out the Clever Apple site. It's got lots of helpful info on starting a tutoring business in your area. |
